WELCOME TO THE KIDS' SCIENCE CHALLENGE!

Thanks for your interest in Pulse of the Planet’s Kids’ Science Challenge. We hope that your students and children find it to be a rich and rewarding science education experience. We sincerely believe that adult participation in the learning experience is the single most important key to educational success. Your participation is truly appreciated.

Kids Science Challenge ChameleonPlease note: the Registration Period for Challenge Year Two is now closed and the winners have been selected. The Kids’ Science Challenge was open to all legal U.S. residents who are students enrolled in 3rd through 6th grade. The Challenge began on October 1, 2009 at 12:01 AM EST and expired at 11:59 PM EST on February 28, 2010. DEADLINE EXTENDED!! All entries must be postmarked by MARCH 1st, 2010. Entries MUST be the kids’ original work, or the original work of their Team. Please see the Official Rules for additional information.

In a nutshell, we asked kids to come up with an original idea or design that relates to three fields of scientific inquiry or engineering: Sports on Mars, Detective (Forensic) Science, and Bio-Inspired Designs. The Entry that is judged in each field to be the most original will win the Grand Prize for that field – a visit with the scientist or engineer team to collaborate with them on the winning idea, along with possible appearances in Kids’ Science Challenge videos and Pulse of the Planet radio programs and other media. But many entrants will win prizes (see winners page for a complete list of prizes).

WKids Science Challenge Chameleone've created a wealth of educational resources and activities related to the three Scientific Fields. Many of the online activities are also appropriate for after-school or classroom use.

L.A. Workshops

Throughout 2010, we're doing KSC science workshops for kids in the Los Angeles area. This project is made possible by the American Honda Foundation. Watch the video.

Kids Science Challenge ChameleonFun Activities!

Our team has developed a series of downloadable activities, with the guidance of our participating scientists and engineers. They're designed to give kids fun ways to experiment with scientific concepts prescient to the 3 Scientific Fields presented here. They may also be adapted for use in science fair projects. For activity downloads and more information about adapting the KSC experience to a local science fair, check out our Fun Activities page.

Lesson Plans

In collaboration with WVIZ/PBS ideastream we provide lesson plans for K-12 classroom use for each of the Scientific Fields. The lesson plans are aligned to National Science Education Standards. They are free and available at: www.pulseplanet.com/educatorresources, but you must register to access them.

Woogi World

Woogi World is a safe online community in which kids can interact with one another. The Kids’ Science Challenge has partnered with Woogi World, where kids have the opportunity to ask specific questions directly to our participant scientists and engineers in a science clubhouse.
